Mission Statement

The Academy of Legal Studies in Business defines and advances legal studies in business and management education and is the professional home for legal studies educators and others who embrace our core ideology.

Core Purpose

To provide a home for colleagues who teach law in business programs - a place of support and sharing of teaching and research - and for others who share our core ideology.

To assure that law is recognized as foundational to markets and to business and is incorporated in the curricula for business and management students.

To promote the stature of business law education to our many publics by articulating law's value as a positive force in management and in society.

Vision Statement

The Academy of Legal Studies in Business will be the universally recognized leader in defining and advancing excellence in legal studies for programs of business and management education.

 

Every college and university business and management program will include core and elective law courses in each graduate and undergraduate programs.  Courses will be taught regularly by faculty members who are both terminally qualified in law and tenured or tenure-track, full-time professors.

Law is the foundation of a civilized society. The legal environment permeates all business decisions and is an integral part of business education.

Core Values

The Academy of Legal Studies in Business encourages and supports professional excellence and promotes the intellectual growth of its members.  The Academy welcomes those who teach legal topics in colleges and universities.  The Academy values its members for their individual contributions and promotes a welcoming and supportive atmosphere at all Academy functions.

Academy membership provides opportunities to advance and disseminate knowledge of the influence of law on business and to create collegial relationships and productive collaboration with educators throughout the world.

ALSB Attributes

Provides the venue for legal studies teachers and scholars in business and management to share and advance knowledge.

Provides the venue for legal studies teachers and scholars to maintain and develop the expertise that will assure the highest quality educational experience for business and management students.

Provides members with regular opportunities for collegiality and professional friendship, collaboration, and support.

Provides liaison with accreditation, licensure, and professional organizations.

Publishes academic journals and academic materials on-line and in print.

Strategic Goals

Education and Development.  Create rich and varied academic experiences for our members to benefit their students and educational institutions.

Advancing Knowledge.  Create a variety of outlets where our members may share knowledge, skills, and pedagogy.

Professional Management Education.  Promote legal studies as foundational in the preparation of business and management professionals worldwide and assist business schools in satisfying AACSB accreditation assurance of learning standards for management--specific knowledge and skills regarding “ethical and legal responsibilities in organizations and society.”

Recognition.  Support and recognize the work and accomplishments of our members.

Connection with other Disciplines.  Create opportunities for members to interact with faculty members in related business and management disciplines.

Global network.  Reach out to scholars and teachers of legal studies and related topics throughout the world by networking with their scholarly societies.

Collegiality.  Provide and encourage activities that make ALSB a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment.

Advancing the Academy.  Increasing the visibility and effectiveness of the Academy as the official voice of the business law/legal environment discipline.
